Guten Morgen!

Violet stands in front of the very classroom where she sat as a student last year, chalk in hand. “Guten Morgen!” she says, and the students echo her. The walls are familiar, but this time, Violet is a volunteer tutor at Kudho Secondary, doing her part to fill a gap for a nation that has a shortage of foreign language instructors.

This year, Ndoto began an after-school mentorship club at our local public high school, the alma mater for many of the families that we know, including some of our staff. Violet, the daughter of one of our security guards, graduated from Kudho last year and scored an A- on her German final exam, which is her passion.

Violet was born and raised in Obunga with limited opportunities, but her resilience and determination set her apart. Not only did she show promise academically, she had a natural talent for sports and leadership. Today, at just 19 years old, she is teaching Sunday School at Ndoto Community Church, serving as a captain for the Ndoto Soccer Academy girls’ team, and part of Ndoto’s high school graduate mentorship program while she waits for admission to college later this year.

Through the added hand-up of sponsorship, Violet stands at the threshold of a bright future. Her story is a reflection of the opportunities created by those who believe in the potential of every child. “I can’t express how thankful I am for the support I’ve received,” Violet says. “Without Ndoto, my dreams would have seemed out of reach.” Her own initiative to position herself for career prospects is doing its part to bring those dreams closer, too!
