Ndoto: For Africa’s Future is a Christ-centered community development organization that works in the Obunga slum of Kisumu, Kenya. Ndoto is a Swahili word meaning “dream.” We aim to give at-risk youth a chance to dream for themselves, their community, and the kingdom of God through education, discipleship and development.
“The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives, and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion – to give them beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. Then they will rebuild the ancient ruins, raise up the former devastations; and they will repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.”
Our mission is to educate, disciple, and develop at-risk youth to pursue their dreams, glorify God, and transform their communities.
Our vision is to see forgotten slum communities transformed from the inside out.
Our dream is to see entire communities changed, not only individual lives transformed. We encourage our students to dream not only about what job they want to have, and who they want to become, but also what kind of community they want to live in. We invest in people as a whole, and empower them to reach their potential, so they will be equipped to become the community leaders of tomorrow.
What We Believe
We believe that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe these three are eternally one God. God the Father is Creator, sovereign over all things and full of love for His people. Jesus is the Son, given for the redemption of mankind. The Holy Spirit dwells in believers, leading and guiding them into truth and wisdom.
We believe that all Scripture is God-breathed and without error. We believe that the Word of God is the ultimate authority of all believers, and is given for instruction, correction, and revelation of the Godhead.
We believe that Jesus Christ’s death on the cross paid the price of our sin and that his resurrection conquered sin, death, and the devil once and for all. We believe that salvation is through faith alone by grace alone in Christ alone.
Our Long-Term Vision
Our sponsorship program is at nearly 300 students. We feel we can still maintain a strong relationship with each student at this level, and have a substantial impact on his or her mental, emotional, physical and spiritual development.
Once we have established 300 students in Obunga, our goal is to start new branches of Ndoto, in different slum communities. Each branch will grow to the same maximum number of students and have their own staff. We will gather them together on special occasions for worship, fellowship, and outreach. It is our hope that by branching out into different communities, Ndoto will maximize its effectiveness and transformation throughout Kisumu, Kenya, and the rest of Africa.
With a population of nearly 1 million people, Kisumu is Kenya’s third largest city. Home of the Luo tribe and located in the Nyanza Province on the edge of Lake Victoria, the world’s second largest fresh water lake, Kisumu functions as the central industrial, commercial, and transportation hub for Western Kenya.
