Fred returning his borrowed book |
“Joseph decided he would rather face life with the Lord and have nothing, than face life without the Lord and have everything,” Ndoto student Fred S. shared with Ndoto team member Michael Omondi. He was in the office to return a borrowed book, John Ortberg’s If You Want To Walk On Water, You’ve Got To Get Out Of The Boat.
Ndoto has a variety of inspirational books in its offices, both for the staff and for students to borrow. Fred, sponsored by David & Rebecca R., Karen S., and Laura S., is one of the rare students who has taken advantage of this.
Fred is about to graduate from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, one of Kenya’s most prestigious schools, with a degree in biochemistry. He loves to help teach in Ndoto Community Church’s Sunday school class.

In addition to the lesson about Joseph, Fred had several insights that he wanted to share. “Sometimes God comes not in those moments when we are most lifted up, but when we are down the lowest in the place of vulnerability and fear!” Fred is facing uncertainty about his future, as he does not yet have a job lined up. He is praying about moving back to the Obunga area to minister to the community. He loves the Lord and wants to serve Him with his life, whatever that may look like.
Wherever Fred goes next, we know that God will use him in important ways. Fred knows this too, as he shared that he learned in the book that “God does not make spare parts of you – you have a purpose and design that is central to God’s dream for the human race!”
