What’s Going On In Kenya?
Like at least 176 other countries, Kenya has begun to see cases of COVID-19. To date, Kenya has 59 confirmed cases, but they are almost entirely limited to counties surrounding Kenya’s two largest cities, Nairobi and Mombasa. There have been no cases of the virus confirmed in Kisumu, where we work, or in nearby counties. Kenya has only recorded one death.

Do you know anyone who works at the US State Department? We may need your help! On November 13th, it had officially been a year since Michael Omondi, Ndoto pastor and husband to Ndoto Executive Director Allison Schlack, received approval for a five-year tourist visa to come to the United States. This week, we mourn the unexpected and untimely passing of a member of the Ndoto Family: Charity Anyango. Charity was born in 1995 and grew up in Obunga. She and her three younger siblings attended Salem Primary School where their mother, Mary, works as a teacher. Her father, William, sells books for a living. When Charity finished primary school, she secured a spot at St. Anne’s Buyangu Secondary School, became sponsored by Ndoto in 2011, and was able to graduate in 2013.

Isaac is an Ndoto student who has become an orphan in the last two years, and lost a sister. He has a younger brother, and they are the only two remaining in the family. He has also been battling stage 4 sarcoma since he became a sponsored student. Isaac has been poked and prodded by many doctors, frightened by doctors that want to give him the worst possible scenario, hopeless, and hurting.

Lent consists of 40 days of fasting and prayer in preparation for Holy week Easter which is the annual commemoration of the passion death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The 40 days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert during which He endured temptation. The three traditional practices of lent are; prayer, fasting and helping our neighbours. Prayer is an indispensable part of our life, and even more so in Lent.
